Coconino National Forest is partnering with the organization Ecoculture and seeking volunteers to plant 40,000 native ponderosa pine trees across 200 acres of land on the east side of the San Francisco Peaks area next month.
This will be near Schultz Pass Road within the area impacted by the 2022 Tunnel and Pipeline fires. Those fires caused the loss of over 3,000 acres of trees.
Planting will begin next month, and Ecoculture will be hosting a volunteer planting event from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on August 9.
Ecoculture is an international organization dedicated to reforestation efforts worldwide, primarily through volunteer work. They have been working with the City of Flagstaff and Coconino National Forest since 2015, primarily helping with post-wildfire restoration.
