Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials are seeing an uptick in cases involved pills and tablets containing the drug fentanyl. The drug is a powerful synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine, but is 50 to 100 times more potent. The drug is being sold as a powder spiked on blotter paper, mixed with or substituted for heroin, or sold as tablets. A small dose of the drug can cause the user to overdose or die. Authorities have seen many cases in the county in recent months. Sheriff’s officials are asking families to talk about the drug and the dangers of it. Investigations are ongoing with the goal of arresting suspects involved in the distribution of the drug.
