Voters overwhelmingly approved an extension of the Yavapai County Jail District tax in a special election Tuesday. Election officials say the question passed with 76-percent of the voters saying yes. The existing jail district sales tax will be extended another 20 years. Currently, a quarter of a cent of a dollar collected by sales tax, goes to the support the county jail system. Currently the tax runs through June of 2020. The tax will be now extended to 2040. County officials say voter turnout was 38-percent.
