A Yarnell man is in jail after stealing a cell phone at a gas station in Congress last week. A Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputy noticed strange behavior at the Shell station on Highway 89 last Thursday by a man who had been loitering at the station. The man looked nervous after seeing a Sheriff’s vehicle at the station so he left. The deputy pulled over the sedan the man was in. Thirty-three-year-old Brandon McCubbin was driving the vehicle and said he was driving on a suspended license. As the deputy was conducting an investigation, dispatch alerted the deputy of a theft of a red cell phone that occurred at the gas station. McCubbin was holding a red cell phone. The deputy looked inside the suspect’s backpack and found burglary tools and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center on numerous charges related to the crime.
