A 22-year-old Apache Junction woman had to be rescued Sunday after she fell about 80 feet in Sycamore Canyon. Coconino County Search and Rescue, sheriff’s deputies, Williams Fire and U.S. Forest Service crews were called to the Paradise Folks area of the canyon at around 1:15 p.m. after she fell in the area while climbing with another person. Crews lowered a rescuer down to the woman. Due to her injury and complexity of the area, a DPS rescue helicopter was called to the scene. At around 4:25 p.m. the rescuer and patient were extracted from the canyon to a landing zone a short distance away. She was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment for a serious leg injury.
