Two Men Find A Box Of Dynamite While Hiking In Skull Valley

A box of dynamite found by two men leads to evacuations in Yarnell Wednesday. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say the men told deputies they found the box while hiking in the Skull Valley area and came across a partially exposed metal lock box. After taking the box home, they opened it to find several sticks of dynamite inside. The men brought the box to the Yarnell sheriff’s substation and left it in the parking lot. Several areas, including Yarnell Justice Court, a local church and a few homes were evacuated. Just after 5 p.m. DPS bomb squad members took the box to a remote area north oF Peeples Valley and blew it up. Sheriff’s officials remind the public that if you find explosives, don’t bring them into population centers.
