Tusayan’s first-ever mayor will step down by the end of the week. Greg Bryan has been the town’s mayor since 2010, when the town was incorporated. Craig Sanderson will take over as interim-mayor until the fall, when town residents will vote on a mayor for the first time. Tusayan is the small town of about 550 people two miles from the entrance gates to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Bryan will end his term on December 31st and has been a major supporter of a group’s plan to build a dude ranch, high-end boutiques, hotels and home just off the highway to the South Rim. That development plan was opposed by the Flagstaff City Council earlier this year as they stated a large development in Tusayan could possibly put a dent into Flagstaff’s economy.
