Three teens smoking caused a brush fire Saturday in Cornville. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say a concerned citizen flagged down a deputy on Page Springs Road at around 5 p.m. about a fire burning near the bridge over Oak Creek. The fire was located behind a home in the 12-hundred block of Brookside Drive. Fire crews limited the brush fire to a half-acre. Deputies determined that a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old male, along with a 17-year-old female, started the fire while smoking near the creek. One of the teens apparently stole cigarettes from home and while the group was smoking, either an unattended match or cigarette started the fire. The teens were released to their parents pending charges including reckless burning and possession of cigarettes.
