There’s new information on the chase that led to the accident at NAU last Friday. DPS officials say they assisted NAU Police on the chase when it ended in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Pine Knoll and McConnell. Gila County Sheriff’s officials were in pursuit of a white truck outside of Payson, but lost sight of the vehicle on State Route 87. State troopers located the truck on Lake Mary Road and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The truck turned onto McConnell but missed the on ramp to Interstate-17 and headed toward campus when it rammed into a passenger car at the Pine Knoll intersection. The trooper’s vehicle then hit the truck. The trooper was not hurt. DPS officials say the driver of the truck, 38-year-old Lee Casey Harris of Bentonville, Arkansas was wanted on several outstanding warrants and may have kidnapped the woman he was travelling with. The woman was Harris’ wife and was reportedly forced into the truck, by Harris. He has been booked into the Coconino County Jail on charges of felony flight, criminal damage, endangerment, aggravated assault and three felony warrants.
