Winslow Police have arrested a suspect who opened fire on a convenience store clerk early Wednesday morning. Police say 36-year-old Joseph G. Smith of Winslow went into the Circle K on the 500 block of West Third Street at around 12:36 a.m. and demanded money. He then fired a gun at the clerk, 30-year-old Daniel Von Spiegel, striking him in the face. Von Spiegel was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center and is in stable condition. Smith left the store, with money, after the shooting. An anonymous tip later in the day, led police to Smith. He was booked into the Navajo County Jail on charges of attempted first degree murder and armed robbery. Daniel’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for expenses. The link is below.
