The Coconino National Forest has updated closures to recreation areas near Flagstaff due work in connection with the Flagstaff Water Protection Project. A closure was first issued last month in order to keep the pubic safe from forest harvesting operations. Now, a section of Forest Road 420 is open from the “Y” intersection at Forest Road 557, to provide access to the Fort Valley Trail System via Chimney Trail. Also, Forest Road 743 will be open to provide non-motorized access which temporarily reroutes the Arizona National Scenic Trail and provide access at the north end of the closure to the Waterline and Weatherford trails. Helicopter operations continue in the Dry Lake Hills and a large portion of Mount Elden. Helicopter operations are scheduled to be completed by the end of April.
