There’s a new candidate for state legislature in the District Six race in 2018. Snowflake resident Walt Blackman has filed paperwork to run for one of the two seats in LD6 as a Republican. Blackman served in the U.S Army and was deployed seven times in support of operations across the world. He is also actively involved in local events in Northern Arizona, speaking at Veterans Day events and working with youth programs in the area. He says one of the reasons he’s running for state office is he has “become increasingly frustrated with our current state of politics and the lack of decency and courage in our elected officials.” Both seats in LD6 will be up for a vote in 2018. Current Representative Bob Thorpe is expected to run for re-election, while Brenda Barton is termed out. Blackman joins Flagstaff resident Stuart McDaniel as the only candidates so far in the race for LD6.
