Six-Year-Old Flagstaff Boy Dies After Being Kept In A Closet For A Month With His Brother
A six-year-old Flagstaff boy passed away Monday after he was locked in a closet and not fed for up to a month. Officers responded to a home in the 31-hundred block of North Monte Vista Drive at around 12:39 p.m. regarding an unresponsive boy. Officers immediately began life-saving efforts until medical personnel arrived. They were not able to resuscitate the boy and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say the boy appeared to be malnourished and there was no obvious signs of trauma. The parents admitted to police that the boy, and his seven-year-old brother, were kept in the bedroom closet for about a month and denied food at times. The brother also appeared to be malnourished. The parents, and their grandmother, admitted the boys were being punished for stealing food by sneaking out of the house while the parents slept. The older brother is being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center. Two other children, ages two and four, are in the care of the Department of Child Services. Police arrested 23-year-old Anthony Jose Archiqebue-Martinez, 26-year-old Elizabeth Archibeque-Martinez and 50-year-old Anne Marie Martinez, on two counts of child abuse and one count of first degree murder. They are being held on a three-million dollar bond each. The investigation is ongoing.
Omg..this is despicable..who knows these 3..POS family
This isn’t mexico, we dont need to lock our children in closets for weeks at a time. Take that behavior to hell where these parents should be.
Funny thing is they think they were doing the right thing by punishing this way because if your kids still in mexico the kid and the parents will get killed.
Nothing funny about anything on this subject. The parents and grandparent should get same treatment! They will soon admit how wrong they really are!
Where were the schools , the neighbors , the family, social services , mental heath ?
This society is inequitable and ignores the poor and suffering .
I am sickened to see that this occurred in Flagstaff …
We
Are
Better
Than
This!
They moved back to Flagstaff last year and they were not in school, obviously. Out of state family could not find them. They were at times living in their van. The father’s family that lives there, well I can’t speak for them. So please, if you don’t know the whole story, don’t assume that the children’s out of state family didn’t care. From the aunt.
To the family of this young boy, I am so sorry for your loss of such a precious life as this little boy. I know this town will turn out to show support for him if services are held in Flagstaff. He deserves an outpouring of love when put to rest even if it’s from folks who never met him.
Don’t be so quick to assume… maybe read this again. The kids were locked away and maybe they didn’t leave the home.
I hope another prisoner takes their food every day
Justice better be served and these people need to Die the same exact way
This is disgusting…. were they even in school??? Neighbors didn’t want involvement??? Omg the boys went out to get food who noticed or blind eye???!!!! They should get the worst possible sentencing… so heart breaking… and I bet on food stamps the whole 9 yards and to starve kids come on. Deny t bgg emails food I say 1 month too

So very sad this young boy deserved so much Better.
Praying for the brother, for a full recovery and a better life.
May the people responsible for the trauma to the boys receive the max penalties for what they have done.
I cried and hugged my son so hard when I heard, it still tears me up right now!!!
The death penalty for all three of these animals.
