Searchers have found the remains of missing 27-year-old Hector Garnica after flash floods swept through a swimming hole on the East Verde River north of Payson Saturday. The flash flood killed ten people, including the Garnica’s wife and two kids. Gila County Sheriff’s officials say they were called to the Cold Springs Swimming Hole in the Tonto National Forest after a flood raged through the normally peaceful area. Those killed were from a group of 14 people that were caught in the flood. Garnica’s remains were discovered by a DPS helicopter during a low-level search. The National Weather Service says about an inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain fell on the Highline Burn Scar and portions of Ellison Creek. The water picked up debris from the burn and sent it down into the East Verde River and through the swimming area at around 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
