A 15-year-old boy had to be rescued Thursday morning from the south side of Capitol Butte in Sedona. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say the boy left home alone Wednesday morning wearing only a small backpack with minimal water and food, leggings, shorts, a hooded sweatshirt, hat and running shoes. His intention was climbing the Butte. Once he reached the top, he became disoriented and couldn’t find a way down. The teen called 911 asking for help. Rescuers found the boy Wednesday afternoon, but weather conditions prevented a rescue. Crews lowered a survival backpack to him for the night. At around 7 a.m. Thursday, a DPS Ranger Helicopter was used to get him to safety. The boy was unharmed and has returned to his family.
