Prescribed burns will take place this week in both the Coconino and Kaibab national forests. Coconino National Forest fire managers are planning to burn nearly 12-hundred acres Tuesday and Wednesday about ten miles northwest of Flagstaff. The burn will be next to Highway 180. Officials say smoke is expected to move to the northeast. Motorists travelling Highway 180 those days will see smoke, flames and wildland fire crews in the area. Kaibab National Forest fire managers will conduct two burns this week, one on the Tusayan Ranger District, the other on the Williams Ranger District. Crews will burn 500 acres three miles north of Tusayan and crews will finish a 52-hundred acre burn about ten miles southeast of Williams that started in 2017. Turkey hunters are advised to be aware of fire operations near Williams. Kaibab burns will start Thursday and possibly last through the weekend.
