Prescott Police discovered a body of a 77-year-old Prescott woman Tuesday morning, that may have been in the house since late 2017. Investigators arrived at a home in the 600-block of Country Club Drive at around 8:48 a.m. A concerned citizen reported they hadn’t seen Sandra Aven in quite some time. Officers located her granddaughter, 24-year-old Briar Aven of Prescott, who said her grandmother was out of town and unavailable. Briar and her mother, 46-year-old Tara Aven then provided inconsistent information to police. The two live next door to Sandra. Investigators checked Sandra’s home and found the dead body, which hasn’t been identified. Subsequent interviews with Briar and Tara resulted in confessions to the murder of Sandra Aven in late 2017. Both also admitted to cashing monthly payment checks belonging to Sandra. Briar and Tara have been booked into the Yavapai County Jail on numerous charges. The case remains under investigation.
