A Prescott mother and daughter have been charged in the connection with the death of the family matriarch. Prescott Police discovered a body of a 77-year-old Prescott woman Tuesday morning, that may have been in the house since late 2017. Investigators arrived at a home in the 600-block of Country Club Drive at around 8:48 a.m. Officers located her granddaughter, 24-year-old Briar Aven of Prescott, who said her grandmother, 77-year-old Sandra Aven, was out of town and unavailable. Briar and her mother, 46-year-old Tara Aven then provided inconsistent information to police. Investigators checked Sandra’s home and found the body. Subsequent interviews with Briar and Tara resulted in confessions to Sandra’s murder in late 2017. Both also admitted to cashing monthly payment checks belonging to Sandra. The two are facing charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and fraudulent schemes. Tara is being held at the Yavapai County Jail on a one-million dollar cash bond, while Briar is being held without bond. The two will appear in Yavapai County Superior Court next week.
