Prescott Getting Unwanted Attention Due To Signs At A Gas Station
Signs at a Prescott gas station are getting a lot of attention, and not in a good way for Prescott. A recent report by “ABC-15” spotlighted the signs at the business off White Spar Road. The sign recently celebrated “White Pride Month in March” and had a derogatory statement about President Biden. The City of Prescott condemned the signs saying “we absolutely reject the message on the sign and similar rhetoric.” Mayor Greg Mengarelli says he found the messages offensive and not a reflection of Prescott. However, the city says what’s on the signs is protected by the First Amendment, regardless of how offensive it is. “ABC-15” says the store lost its U-Haul affiliation Wednesday and the owner fired the employee behind putting the messages on the signs. The city made the gas station move the signs from the city sidewalk to their property because it violated city code.
Enough ,you need to calm down
Gosar supporters.
Prescott and Prescott Valley has really turned into an extremist city, especially with their anti-masking beliefs, but racism, lies and conspiracy is intolerable. We always loved going to Prescott for events, shopping, etc., but no more! We will not support a city with looneys, who have no patriotism to their country, just themselves and their radical beliefs! We will even go to Trader Joe’s in the valley now instead of Prescott.
I agree with Lucy. Too bad some people feel the need to be superior to other people in order to boost their own diminished personality.
I agree they should take away Black History month also, so racist.
I totally agree.
I so agree. I don’t stand on either side. It’s all about character of a person not color. But if you want to get technical why can we have a Black pride month but not a white pride month. Keep it fair. Both should be aloud to be proud of who they are without being called racist.
Seriously? Whites were not enslaved, systematically lynched, denied the right to vote, not admitted to some hotels and restaurants, etc… etc…
A white man (European origin)
Find me a city without loonies.
What “anti-masking” beliefs? Go into any supermarket, for example, and 98% of the people will be masked. Generalization of a population is dangerous.
One twerp puts up a sign, without the owner’s knowledge, gathers some notice, is immediately terminated, and suddenly a whole community is tarnished. See: generalization of a population is dangerous.
Twelve people demonstrate against the election results on the courthouse square. Twelve.
Ever heard of mystery shoppers
Mystery shoppers are a whole different thing: people who are tasked to shop for products at a particular retail outlet (that commissions the action) in order to gauge how a typical customer who is really just interested in buying something sees the experience. One of my family members did that for a year or so.
I live in Prescott, and have loved my town for years.
Then crazy people counter demonstrated the peaceful BLM protest by cursing at people and families, spitting on them, and intimidating them by standing there in lines with their semi automatic rifles causing tension and a great division in our town. Now this?
Make no mistake, this attitutude normal for Prescott. Just go to the local social media forums.
This city thrives on tourism from the surrounding cities in our state. Now that the racist cat is out of the bag, I’ve heard at least half a dozen Phoenician families say they’ll never come here again.
“Everybody’s Hometown ” is a marketing ploy, and a blatant lie.
My family and I are selling and getting out. It’s a shameful town with no leadership denouncing this- why? Because these same people vote their like minded politicians in office.
There are a heavy core of antimaskers here. we seem to have a lot of libertarians. heavily 2nd amendment. ever wonder where the constant lie about “the other. side” is comingforyourguns comes from, or. why who perpetuates this lie does it?supermarkets require masks, so of course they aren’t. a validresponse regarding. community. usage. in Prescott. Stick to sci-fi. That’s why we loveyou!
Looney is exactly what you sound like. I am not going to visit a town because you feel the people are looney? How much sense does that make to a sain person? Not much
Love Prescott God bless America
Absolutely. God bless America. Hell everybody else has a month. Why not us white boys (people).
I sadly agree that Prescott has its share of white supremists who mindlessly enjoy their white privilege, but please do not judge all of its citizens by these. In the 15 years I’ve lived in Prescott, I can honestly say the tide is turning to a more diverse population bringing much-needed acceptance. The manager of this gas station was terminated, as she should have been. It’s embarrassing, to say the least. I’m sorry to see that we still see a few sawed-off Chevy trucks proudly flying their F* Biden flags around the square. Not all of us here view America in such stark black and white colors, though. Change is in Prescott’s once-stagnant air, as it is in the country.
Oh No!!!
Probably would have been Arrested if it was posted “White Lives Matter” or even “All Lives Matter”.
I love it so true
Why not? Why is White Pride any different than Black,Brown,Yellow,Gay Pride? Its fine leave him alone.
Exactly, the reverse racism is laughable.
With all the sludge that has been spewed the last 4 years and now the tables have turned. Our 1st amendment rights are only good for liberals? Sorry, but I support free speech for all, not just one party.
Hate speech and lies aren’t free speech.
Actually offensive speech, whether you call it hate speech or some other pejorative, is exactly what the First Amendment protects. Speech that offends no one needs no protection.
All speech should be free weather you agree with it or not.
I’m not quite sure you understand the first amendment.
I still want to know what was wrong with Make America Great Again?
Now it’s Downhill.
We as a community must hold ourselves accountable, we must police ourselves, this is a great place to live to retire, or to raise families, I’d like to believe this for all of us Americans not just a select few, we must not let this cancer fester and grow.
Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
I’ve seen people driving around town with disgusting vulgar anti Biden flags on their trucks
We as a community should be ashamed we allow this vulgar language to fly on a vehicle around our beautiful city there are children that live here
That is very disrespectful of OUR new president
If we allow ourselves to look the other way it gives the nod that it’s okay and it will grow from one sign to many, then our beautiful city and reputation will be tarnished for many years to come.
Very well said to the dot
Sounds like Prescott. Have been there with my family several times. There were so many Trump hats, Trump signs and idiots not wearing masks the last couple of visits (since the free and fair election), we won’t be returning any time soon. Wake up you conspiracy theory peddling dummies.
Not returning?
Good to hear!
The problem is not in that all people shouldn’t be proud of themselves, their impacts on society and more importantly their heritage.
The problem is the para-phrase that for so long has had racial implications and undertones of hate.
I am of Irish decent. Clan Hogan to be exact. Descendant of King Boru. My heritage is plagued with oppression, immigration, slavery and targeted racism disguised as endentored servitude. Do I hold it against anyone? No. Do I have a desire to see Irish History in schools along side Native and Black History? Yes!
That being said constitutionally we do have Freedom of Speech. As long as we don’t project it as verbally abusive towards any other because then we violate their rights to feel safe.
God Bless America all those who call it home and …..right now it’s January, Civil Rights Month. February we will honor Black History Month and come March do as the Irish prefer…drink be merry and move forward. November we will again honor our Native Brothers and Sisters. Keep your hate filled messages to yourself in your home and outta the mainstream of everyone one else who is choosing to heal our broken country. Thank you!
If you don’t like or offended by the signs, then don’t go to the gas station it’s very simple.
Effectivly that’s what’s happened. The owner wasn’t happy about people not going to the gas station and the employee was fired as a result. UHaul didn’t want to be associated with the sign so they disolved their contract. The city took no action. This is the free market working as intended.
Prescott has potential ..but. ….the pandemic covid strain is not being kind ..has no strangers.
Unfortunately, Prescott has too many people who agree with the White Supremacists, NeoNazis, Proud Boys and other anti Americans that this sign represents. They think they are Patriots but do not believe in Democracy.
Yes! I’m a local and the crazy racists are out of the woodwork. It’s patriotic to be racist here. We’re moving. (Watch locals say, good riddance lol). I’ll sell my beautiful, half million dollar home and go bring commerce to a city that actually deserves it.
We’re a representative republic not a democracy, try reading the constitution sometime?
Live and let live. Mind your own business if it offends you look at something else
Who cares…
Black month
White month
Purple month
Grow up people!!!
Remember the black kid mural that was painted on the side of Lincoln elementary school?
The city wouldn’t have it and repainted him white. Hahaha love this tow n
Racism and bigotry is about unjustly lumping people into a certain group or applying a negative characteristic to them. For example, claiming that all white people in the Prescott area are racist. Think about that.
Most of the people that are bitching about Prescott are people that came here from California and brought their politics with them. Go back where you came from.
Case in point ^
The only thing a Prescottonian hates more than diversity is a white liberal from California. “Go Home, Californian liberals! We don’t want you here!” Typical behavior for anyone not aligned with their Uber conservative politics and religious views.
And the California formula is such a stunning success, right? You need to rethink that ‘logic’
As an Arizona native, I completely disagree with your opinions regarding people in the Prescott area. That said, why did you move to a place that’s conservative if you aren’t? Seems like it a major reason why you’re so unhappy. Adios.
Exactly just like political and economic locusts…. Coming here after cashing out to buy more affordable property and some elbow room, then voting for the same useful idiots and policies that have ruined California, Oregon and Washington state
exactly
“Interesting” comments. Keep them coming so we can get an even better idea of the Prescott community. I like knowing what kind of people live there when I have to come there to conduct business.
On Robert rd. In P.V. a house has a hand painted sign that reads f u biden, relax people, it is what it is
Since the comments are abundant on this story, let me say a couple of things here. We have had 50 comments on this so far, which we thank you for those. However, I have deleted 18 more for reasons such as racism, vulgarity and attacking others for example. These are the reasons we don’t let comments through on our social media and we won’t let them through here. So I politely ask, think before you post. If you can’t think, don’t post. Thanks everyone and have a safe weekend.
What good for the goose is good for the gander. Why is it offensive? People of color have theirs. I think you’re all reading more into it than there is. I think the Native Americans should have one too. Why not? We all have different history. It would be nice if people would just quit crying about everything. Good Lord!
