NAU announced Friday there are 273 confirmed cases of COVID-19 consisting of on and off-campus students. President Rita Cheng made the announcement in an email that was sent to faculty, staff and students Friday. Cheng said “since September 2nd, NAU has tested more than 4,800 people through free saliva-based mitigation testing at the University Union Fieldhouse.” She added, “since mid-August, approximately 8,000 total tests have been provided through NAU to our campus and the greater Flagstaff community.” Out of the 4,858 tests since September 2nd, the positive percent of the tests is 5.6-percent. Cheng says the university is currently using less than 50-percent of its designated quarantine spaces, but plans to increase the size. The school plans to continue its mitigated testing of two-thousand members of the university. Plus, NAU plans to partner with Coconino County to expand contact tracing efforts.
