More information is known about the man who charged Flagstaff Police officers and was fatally shot this past Sunday at The Guidance Center in Flagstaff. Officials say two officers were leaving the center on an unrelated call, when 47-year-old Henry Harold Russell of Boise, Idaho confronted the officers brandishing two knives at around 9:47 a.m. Russell charged the officer holding a knife in each hand and he was given commands to drop the weapons. One of the officers shot Russell after not complying with the officer’s command. He was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center and was pronounced dead. Russell wasn’t a patient at the center and it’s unknown why he was there the day of the incident. He was convicted in Idaho in 2005 for sexual abuse of a child under 16 years old and served time in prison multiple times. He was released from an Idaho prison back in December. Russell violated his probation by leaving Idaho. He stayed at Flagstaff Shelter Services on January 28th and has no known family in the area. Russell was admitted to the Flagstaff Medical Center for an overdose and being suicidal last month. The incident remains under investigation.
