There’s new information into the death of a Prescott man last weekend. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at around 5:35 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots heard coming from a home on McKee Mine Road, located off of Highway 89. When authorities arrived, they found the body of 50-year-old James Johnson. Detectives talked to Johnson’s 50-year-old wife and his 19-year-old stepson. Authorities say Johnson first attacked his wife, breaking her leg in the process. Then he turned his attention to his step-son and began choking him. The woman was able to remove Johnson’s gun from his belt and shot him multiple times. The son, fearing for his life, then stabbed Johnson with a kitchen knife. The Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that one of the shot fired into Johnson’s body caused his death. The case has been turned over to the Yavapai County Attorney’s office.
