A daunting project has lead to amazing things for Flagstaff artist Sky Black. He is the creator of “The Sound of Flight” mural that is currently being created on the east wall of The Orpheum Theater in downtown Flagstaff. Black says the mural currently shows a piano with an endless amount of birds flying out of it. He and veteran muralists, “The Mural Mice,” plan to add the Grand Canyon to this soon-to-be 45-hundred square-foot mural. Upon completion, Black believes it will be the largest mural in Arizona. When asked why he wanted to take up such a project, he said it was his chance to create something that would “last forever and leave it behind for the community. It’s my ode to Flagstaff, this is where I’m from and it’s where my art career got started.” There will be a benefit concert and silent auction Friday night at The Orpheum, with The Brothers Gow performing. The concert will be a celebration and a kickoff of the second half of the painting that will start next month. For more information on the concert and the project itself, click here.
