The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has identified the little girl, whose remains were found in Congress 62 years ago. Investigators say four-year-old Sharon Lee Gallegos of New Mexico was buried at a wash about one-to-two weeks prior to the discovery. She was abducted in July of 1960 from her grandmother’s house in Alamagordo, New Mexico. No further trauma was evident at the time, which made determining the cause of death difficult. Cold case investigators partnered with Othram, to determine if advanced DNA testing and genome sequencing could help give some insight into the circumstances surrounding Gallegos and her death. Officials say they are checking on a few leads into who caused her death. This is the oldest cold case the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has solved in its history.
