YCSO Release Results From Their Memorial Day Weekend DUI Detail

The results are in from the Memorial Day Weekend DUI enforcement detail by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. The operation resulted in 49 traffic stops and deputies noted 21 designated sober drivers and arrested eight for DUI. There was one aggravated DUI, four misdemeanor DUIS, two extreme DUI’s and one drug related DUI. In one of the cases, a 46-year-old California man was arrested on Gurley Street in Prescott Friday evening. When he was stopped, the deputy immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana. Tests indicated he was impaired and he told a deputy “I smoke a lot of weed.” On Saturday afternoon, a black pickup truck was seen passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone on Highway 89 in Peeples Valley. The truck was going 85 in a 65 mile an hour zone. The driver maintained the speed, even when the speed limit dropped to 55. The deputy then saw the passenger of the truck “moon” the other driver as they passed. During the stop, the driver noted that his 25-year-old passenger “moon’s people all the time and I can’t get him to stop.” The driver was ticketed for a moving violation while the passenger was cited for indecent exposure.
