The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has announced they will participate in the Rapid DNA Law Enforcement Program, which is an investigative tool used by law enforcement to help identify or eliminate suspects of a crime. The new technology allows for multiple steps of DNA analysis to be simplified to a single instrument and performed in two hours. YCSO has received equipment that can analyze DNA from an evidence sample or cheek swab to search the state data base for a possible match. Yavapai County is only one of four counties in Arizona currently using this technology. As of April 2022, more than 650 cases have been run through the Arizona Rapid DNA Law Enforcement Program, and more than 240 investigative leads created.
