A 59-year-old woman was rescued Saturday at the Granite Mountain Hotshot Memorial trail near Yarnell Saturday. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the park at around 1:30 p.m. to find the woman about a mile from the trailhead suffering from heat stroke. Fortunately an off-duty EMT was in the area and able to stay with her until Yarnell Fire personnel arrived. The woman suffered extreme heat stroke symptoms including loss of consciousness, disorientation and high body temperature. She was airlifted from the scene by a DPS helicopter to a Phoenix area hospital for treatment. When out hiking, be aware of the weather and temperatures and if you start to have symptoms from heat stroke, seek help.
