A pair of recent drug seizures near Ash Fork netted a large amount of drugs. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies first stopped a grey pick-up truck Monday at around 7:45 a.m. on eastbound Interstate-40 for moving violations. While talking to the two men in the truck, the deputy smelled marijuana coming from inside. A search of the truck uncovered 52 pounds of pot in 52 one-pound food saver bags, as well as 112 individual packages of THC wax and two handguns, one of which was stolen that the suspects said was bought “on the street.” Arrested were 24-year-old Ruben Torres-Cruz and 23-year-old Christian Hurtado, both of Texas. The second incident happened Wednesday, again on eastbound I-40 near Ash Fork. Deputies pulled over a dark-colored Kia SUV for making an unsafe lane change. The officer could smell marijuana coming from the car and conducted a search. With the help of K-9 “Haddie,” the deputy found 84 pounds of pot and about ten-thousand dollars in cash. Arrested was 35-year-old Tyrel Fann from New Mexico. All suspects were booked on drug charges, among other charges, and remain in the Camp Verde Detention Center on bond.
