YCSO Deputies Arrest A Cornville Man In Connection With A Shooting At His Home Sunday

Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Cornville man over the weekend in connection with domestic violence and firing on officers. YCSO says deputies responded to the South Aspaas neighborhood in Cornville Sunday. The person who called 9-1-1 said one of the people inside the home was shot. When deputies arrived they started to attempt to negotiate the surrender of the alleged shooting suspect, but the suspect, 59-year-old Kerry Wright, refused and took up a position inside to prevent being arrested. A sergeant and two deputies quickly organized an emergency extraction of the wounded victim, after finding out the person had been shot multiple times and couldn’t get out of the house on his own. The three got into the house and managed to get the wounded person out. He was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center in critical condition. Wright continued to barricade himself in the home and told officers he would “shoot it out” with them. At one point, Wright fired a single shot, hitting the windshield of one of the SWAT armored vehicles on scene. After several hours, Wright finally surrendered. He was charged with aggravated assault per domestic violence, aggravated assault on law enforcement and attempted homicide. He is being held without bond.
