Wrong-Way Impaired Driver Caused An Accident On Southbound I-17 Near Sunset Point Sunday

There was an accident involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate-17 near Sunset Point Sunday night. DPS says a 1996 white Dodge Ram pickup truck was heading northbound in the southbound lanes, when it hit a 2011 light blue Toyota Rav4 head on. The male driver of the Rav4 sustained minor injuries and was not transported for care. The driver of the Ram truck was a 70-year-old woman from Phoenix. She was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and was treated and released. Authorities say impairment was a factor in the accident and she was booked into jail. The accident closed the right lane of southbound I-17 while crews cleared the scene.
