Westbound Interstate-40 was closed east of Holbrook this morning due to a trooper-involved shooting involving heavily armed-suspects. DPS says after being notified by New Mexico State Police at around 2:19 a.m., a 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman began to shoot at both NMSP and Arizona State Troopers from inside a white Dodge Ram pickup that was reported stolen. The weapons they used were also reported stolen. Additional troopers deployed ahead of the suspects, returned fire, thus disabling the truck. The vehicle stopped at milepost 311 at the Adamana Road exit east of Holbrook, where the suspects were both taken into custody. They are currently being held in cooperation with the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspects are wanted in connection with a homicide case in Los Angeles and will be facing multiple felony charges in Arizona. No troopers or suspects were injured during the incident.
