A vehicle pulling a travel trailer caught fire near the Sedona exit at around 2:50 p.m. on northbound I-17 Sunday afternoon, closing both sides of the interstate for hours. The vehicle fire spilled off the highway, turning into the Watermelon Fire. The wildfire grew to about 30 acres until forward progress was stopped. The right lane of north and southbound I-17 reopened at around 6:40 p.m., while the left lanes reopened at around 9:30. There are no reports of any injuries and there’s no word on how the vehicle fire started.
