Two Were Arrested For Assault And Weapons Misconduct At Desert Sunrise High School Soon After Friday’s Game Against Flagstaff

An incident involving a gun took place in the parking lot of Desert Sunrise High School in Maricopa Friday night, which is where the Flagstaff Eagles just finished beating the Golden Hawks in football. Maricopa Police tell KAFF News 18-year-olds Brandyn Lee and Kevin McIntosh attended the game, and as the game was ending a fight broke out on school grounds between two groups of people, one group involved the two men. When Brandyn and Kevin reached the parking lot, a group of concerned adults went to check on them. It was then Kevin reportedly brandished a firearm from his waistband and waived it around in the air, resulting in an unknown female shouting, “he has a gun.” The shout alerted the on-site school resource officer who ran to the scene. The officer immediately placed Brandyn in handcuffs as Kevin was getting into the backseat of a car driven by a female. The officer ordered everyone out of the car and that’s when Kevin ran from the scene. The officer found him under a pickup truck in the parking lot and pulled Kevin out. He resisted arrest but was taken into custody. A search of the car Kevin was in revealed a concealed firearm under the driver’s seat. The two were arrested and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on multiple charges including aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons. One juvenile as also arrested, while another was released to their parents pending the outcome of the investigation. During the time, school officials kept fans and Flagstaff’s football team away from the scene until it was deemed safe. We were at the game, broadcasting it on radio and on NFHSNetwork.com, and wasn’t aware of the situation until Saturday. We would like to thank the administration at Desert Sunrise High School, the school resource officer and the Maricopa Police Department for their fine work in responding to the incident and getting it under control, keeping everyone who attended the game safe.
