Two people were killed in an accident that shut down eastbound Interstate-40 near Seligman for hours Thursday morning. The accident happened at around 11 p.m. at milepost 122 near the town. A vehicle heading west had an issue with its left front tire and crossed the median, striking a vehicle heading eastbound. The wreck resulted in a fire, consuming both vehicles. The driver and a passenger in the eastbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound vehicle was airlifted from the scene to a hospital for treatment. ADOT says all eastbound traffic had to exit and detour through Seligman to get back on the highway. Eastbound I-40 reopened at around 4:30 a.m.
