Two people were killed when the vehicle they were in was struck by eastbound train about five miles west of Flagstaff near Bellemont Tuesday night. Ponderosa Fire officials say the accident happened at around 11:30 p.m. at Interstate 40 and milemarker 188. When crews arrived they found a 2007 Jeep Patriot with two passengers, both dead inside. Investigators say the Jeep was not at a railroad crossing and appeared to have been driving off road at the time of the accident. All trains were shut down for around six hours during the investigation. Trains were cleared to resume service at 6 a.m. The victim’s names have not yet been released.
