Mount Elden Middle School and Puente de Hozho Elementary School were put into “shelter in place” Tuesday due to an incident at a private school in the area. The schools operated as usual with learning going on in both buildings. Flagstaff Police say a family received threats to harm their children at the private school. The person making the threats didn’t have any further information about the family or the kids. The mother, acting out of caution, picked up the children and notified the school. A shelter in place is initiated when students and staff need to be inside the building for safety, protection from dangers outside of the building, or for unsafe conditions in the immediate vicinity of the school, such as weather, flood, fire or police presence in the neighborhood.
