Two Defensive Touchdowns Lead Utah Tech Over NAU Saturday’s Home Opener For The Lumberjacks

The NAU Lumberjacks had trouble with their passing attack, throwing for just 34 yards in the first half and tossing two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, as Utah Tech beat the Jacks, 50-36 Saturday in the Skydome. The turning point in the game came in the second quarter after the Trail Blazers went up 17-7, they scored on an interception return for a touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown in the span of about three minutes. One of a few positives for the Lumberjacks was the play of junior transfer running back Devon Starling. He had his best game as a Lumberjack, finishing with 111 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Freshman Adam Damante went 22-31 for 247 yards with his first career touchdown pass, and added another touchdown late in the game. He also had two interceptions and a fumble in the loss. NAU will begin its Big Sky Conference schedule at home next Saturday against the 12th-ranked Montana Grizzlies. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
