Two people were arrested after they fled an attempted traffic stop on Highway 89 in Prescott Wednesday night. Prescott Police tried to stop a brown Ford truck on north Highway 89 at around 11:45 p.m. and fled the scene. The truck was spotted a short time later near Highway 89 and Willow Lake Road and deputies learned it had crashed into the garage of a house and left the scene. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies located the truck parked off Highway 89 near Granite Gardens Drive. A deputy shined a spotlight on the truck and it began to drive away. A pursuit began back on north Highway 89. Prescott officers deployed spike strips, but the driver swerved around them. The truck turned onto Highway 89A and was serving back and forth driving between 50 and 80 miles-per-hour. Officers set up roadblocks in the area of Highway 89A and Robert Road. This caused the truck to turn around and head west on 89A. After hitting a sheriff’s vehicle, the truck ended up in the parking lot of Bradshaw Mountain High School. An additional sheriff’s vehicle struck the driver’s side door and another sheriff’s vehicle blocked the parking lot. The driver, 30-year-old Ardith Buchanan from Apache Junction and her passenger Paul McKee, had to be forced out of the truck and taken into custody. Alcohol containers were found throughout the truck. Buchanan was booked on a slew of charges related to the incident. McKee was charged with resisting arrest. More charges may be filed in the case as it remains under investigation.
