A Tuba City man is dead after a car-pedestrian accident on Highway 89 in East Flagstaff Monday night. Flagstaff Police responded to the 69-hundred block of North Highway 89 at 7:10 p.m. to assist the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office with a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. When officers arrived the pedestrian, identified as 44-year-old Don Arthur Junior, was pronounced dead as a result of significant injuries sustained after being struck by the vehicle. Investigators learned the vehicle was traveling northbound, leaving the city limits, in the left lane on North Highway 89. Arthur was crossing North Highway 89 from the driver’s left. The driver of the vehicle reported seeing an object in the travel lane and took evasive action, swerving right to avoid the object. The driver reported their vehicle struck the object, which was determined to be Arthur. The driver stopped their vehicle at the Conoco Fuel Station on North Highway 89 where police contacted them. This fatal collision is currently under investigation as investigators work to determine if speed or any other factors contributed to the cause of the accident.
