A head-on collision near Rimrock Monday leaves three people, including a five-year-old child, with serious injuries. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Cornville Road at around 4 p.m. on a report of the accident. A 46-year-old Rimrock woman drove the wrong way in her 2012 Chevy Suburban on east Cornville Road near Kimberly Way in Rimrock. This resulted in a head-on collision with a 2007 Ford F150 driven by a 37-year-old Rimrock man driving in the westbound lane of Cornville Road. A five-year-old in the Suburban was in a normal seat instead of a child seat at the time of the accident. The child was flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital with apparent internal bleeding. Sheriff’s officials say the child passed away Thursday. Both drivers were flown to Flagstaff Medical Center in serious condition. Witnesses told deputies the Suburban was weaving on Cornville Road at Peach Springs Road and crossed over the centerline several times before the accident happened. The driver thought she had fallen asleep and admitted earlier to using pain pills and medical marijuana. Blood tests are pending and the accident is under investigation.
