This Year’s State Capitol Christmas Tree Was Chosen From The Coconino National Forest

This year’s Christmas Tree, that is being showcased at the State Capitol in Phoenix, came from the Coconino National Forest. Officials say the Douglas Fir was harvested off the Mogollon Rim as part of the Roosevelt Good Neighbor Authority Project. The project is part of the larger Crager Watershed Protection Project, which plans to treat 64-thousand acres of land in order to protect the municipal watershed for the Town of Payson. The tree had been tagged for removal to accomplish the project’s objectives. The project will also protect wildlife habitat, range resources and popular recreation areas. Thinning treatments will also decrease the risk of high-intensity wildfire and subsequent post-fire flooding in the watersheds that lead to C.C. Cragin Reservoir. The tree can be viewed at the Capitol until December 31st.
