Thanks to Mother Nature, firefighters battling the Wildcat Fire have a good grip on the fire near Chino Valley. Fire officials say the wildfire burned 80 acres and is 60-percent contained. The fire started at around noon Thursday about nine miles northeast of Chino Valley in the North Perkinsville Road area. Multiple aircraft jumped on the fire, including large air tankers and the DC-10 VLAT. At around 3 p.m. yesterday a storm dropped a good amount of rain on the fire, which slowed its progression. The fire is showing minimal activity and very little smoke. Crews are securing the fire’s edges. Lightning is being blamed for the start of the fire.
