The Slate Fire has burned just over 11-thousand acres is now 33-percent contained. Crews continued backburning Tuesday to gain more containment. ADOT has reduced speeds on Highway 180 from Cedar Ranch to Kendrick Park to 35 miles per hour in the area until further notice. If you are driving through the area, slow down and watch for fire crews along the highway. Several recreation sites remain closed in the area and a forest order was issued over the weekend to close parts of the forest in the area of the fire. The Slate Fire started last Monday on Slate Mountain about 23 miles north of Flagstaff. There are around 180 personnel are battling the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
