The Sheridan Fire Could Affect Hunting In Unit 17B

The Sheridan Fire continues to burn 23 miles northwest of Prescott. The fire has forced the closure of an area within the Prescott National Forest’s Chino Valley Ranger District that is a popular hunting area. Arizona Game And Fish officials say the closure will affect those hunters who are planning to hunt deer and bear in Unit 17B. The archery-only, nonpermit-tag season for deer and general season for bear in that unit begins tomorrow. The closure near Camp Wood Road is for the protection of the public and allows fire crews to effectively manage the lightning-caused blaze, which has burned over 85-hundred acres. Areas outside of the closure will remain open for hunting. For more information call (928) 777-2200 or log onto the Prescott National Forest website.
