What was a proposal back in October is going to be a reality next Thursday. The Sedona Shuttle will offer free park-and-ride service to select trailheads. The Coconino National Forest made the proposal for a shuttle service last year, saying it would help reduce traffic congestion in the greater Sedona area and improve pedestrian safety. The shuttle serve Dry Creek, Little Horse, Cathedral Rock and Soldiers Pass. The Mescal trailhead will open for shuttle service this summer. It would operate Thursday through Sunday from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and it will be free of charge. Shuttles will run throughout the day every 15 to 45 minutes. There are two park-and-ride lots, one at 20 Carruth Drive and the second at 1294 State Route 179. During peak visitation periods, the shuttles will run seven days a week.
