Prescott National Forest officials are closing the Yavapai Campground for the winter starting Tuesday, November 1st. The campground is located in the Granite Basin Recreation Area and it’s the most remote of the campgrounds. It is traditionally managed year-around, but forest officials say due to staffing shortages, both paid and volunteer, the lack of snow removal, remote location and other factors, they decided to close the area. The campground is expected to reopen on April 1st. Even with Yavapai’s closing, Alto Pit and White Spar campgrounds will remain open through the winter. To make a reservation for one of the forest’s campgrounds, log onto recreation.gov. For more information, log onto the Prescott National Forest’s website.
