Killip Elementary School held a grand opening ceremony and open house today in Flagstaff. The new school was built over the last two years, after the last building was torn down last year. The new school has natural lighting, a brand new gymnasium, a stand-alone cafeteria and eating spaces and large classrooms. Killip Principal Joe Gutierrez says the “the most important thing in this building are the extended learning spaces, the spaces where our kids can work together, problem solve, collaborate and really bring learning to relevancy so they can take that on in their years to come in their education.” The cost of the new school was around $22.6-million and it was paid, mostly from a bond that was passed by voters in 2018. Classes start at Killip, and the rest of FUSD schools, begin classes Wednesday.
