It looks like the Monsoon season is truly about to begin this week. The National Weather Service says chances of afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be in the forecast from Monday through at least Saturday. Forecasters say there will be about a 20-percent chance of showers in the Flagstaff and Prescott area Monday, but then we will see chances increase to as high as 70-percent as the week goes along. The Monsoon will be helped by Hurricane Enrique, which is slowly moving toward the mouth of the Gulf of California. It is expected to send moisture into the Monsoonal flow. There will be fire concerns Monday and Tuesday, then we will transition to flash flood concerns by mid-week. Fire activity is likely to be at a minimum by the end of the week. Which is great news for fire crews on the Rafael and Backbone fires. Looking ahead to the Flagstaff Fourth of July Parade Saturday, forecasters are calling for a 50-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with high’s in the low-80s.
