For the first time in two years, the Great Pinecone Drop event will be happening in downtown Flagstaff on New Year’s Eve. The six-foot-tall, LED-lighted ornament is currently hanging three stories high at the Weatherford Hotel, and the countdown clock is ticking as we get closer to the anticipated day. Weatherford Hotel Special Event Coordinator, Kim Ward, says the best seat in the house in on the balcony area of the hotel, but it comes with a price. Ward says, “we are offering the Golden Ticket Event in the Zane Grey Ballroom again, which begins at 7 p.m., complete with passed hors d’ oeuvres, a prime rib carving station with mini rolls, mini desserts, a champagne toast at midnight, and a commemorative champagne flutes.” There will be two lowerings of the Great Pinecone Drop: one at 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and one at midnight to celebrate the New Year. The Great Pinecone Drop itself is free and open to everyone in the public. The streets of downtown Flagstaff will be closed and blocked off. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to the event.
