The Grand Canyon has been certified as an “International Dark Sky Park.” The International Dark Sky Association made the announcement Monday. There will be a special ceremony at Mather Amphitheater on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The announcement kicks off the 29th Annual Star Party at the park. The certification demonstrates a commitment from the park to improve night skies through the use of more energy efficient, sustainable lighting. It also reaffirms the Grand Canyon’s commitment to educate the public and gateway communities about the important of good lighting and opportunities to work together toward common goals.
